New layout (or: I’ve been working hard, yes!)

TA DAAAAA!

screencap of new layout

Embarrassingly, I must have spent most of the summer on this. I’m struggling to figure out why, since I’ve been so lazy finishing it.

I still have some things to do:

  • Let people subscribe via email, as not everyone’s seen the light of RSS readers. DONE. And I think it’s anonymous too, lolz.
  • Let people register so they can view protected posts.
  • And once I’ve done the above two things, the sidebar’s colourful boxes will look better and/or make more sense. You’ll see!
  • Figure out how to put the post’s tags with the meta info.
  • Change/add tags – at least from the last year onwards (no more categories!).
  • Make it display properly in Internet Explorer. LOL JK USE A REAL BROWSER.

Please tell me if there’s anything broken/overlooked (pleeeaaase!)!

In other news: it’s hard to do legal research when you haven’t even been given the assignment yet; I’m getting a little stressed, lolz!

Becka’s going to Wellington!

And this is why:

…Legal research (kill me).

In second year, I whinged that there can’t be anything worse than legal judgments. They are soulless words for me to annotate and coat with highlighters; my concentration disintegrates beneath them. The Law Faculty must have overhead the tortured howls of my mind, for they said: “LET’S INCREASE THE PAIN BWAHAHA“, and in third year they introduced legal research. They are cruel, and without mercy.

Legal research is the worst. It’s not like Classics research, where you read some books off a list and smash stupid ideas together into an essay. It’s just misery. Last semester I spent a couple of days attempting this “legal research”, only to get nowhere. Luckily most legal research papers are optional, but you need to do five to escape uni with an LLB. (Respect your lawyers; they have survived much.)

So I’m doing a summer school paper, hoping that if I spend EVERY HOUR ALIVE attempting this research shiz, I’ll know what I’m doing for the rest of the year. And yeeees… I could have done all this in Dunedin, but Forensic Law is pure badassery, unlike INTERNATIONAL TAXATION LAME BORINGNESS. If I’m going to battle legal research I might as well do it in the Best City Ever for a paper that at least sounds enjoyable. :D

I’m going tomorrow! And heading straight to the Wholly Bagel for the first time in two and a half painful years, because nomm. ♥ What else is there to do there (apart from, er, study)? Let me know, in your stealthy ways~

Another picture of a cat, and other happy things!

Cat wearing a knitted sweater

When appreciating special things, it’s always best to start with a cat. Yes, I am going to make a habit of doing this, heh. ♥ (photo source.)

Buying a chandelier for the new bathroom.

LOLOLOLOL IT IS GOING TO BE AWESOME. Mum flipped out at the plans my sister and I originally had – too much purple, not enough beige – so we grudgingly had to compromise. At the moment we’re also aiming to get some kind of ~feature wall~, with several mirrors and purpley wallpaper (waterproof, if such a thing exists!). It’ll be magical.

Materialism.

…I bought two cardigans. The classic every-girl-owns-one Glassons cardigan, in grey and mint green. Mint green’s apparently my favourite colour at the moment, it’s even on my nails! I’m probably especially fond of these cardigans because I ordered them online, and stuff in the mail is known to be the best thing in the world ever.

Fortune cookies.

Christmas fortune cookies. In January. So authentically Asian! I loved mine:

Confucius say: if you think we’re going to sum up your life on a bit of paper, you’re crazy.

DEEEEEEEP.

Nagging friends into getting blogs.

Yes. And if YOU are reading this (and omg, you are!), you should start one too. Send me the link! Even if you’ve found this blog from Facebook stalking me, I probably FB stalk you too, so it’s totez not creepy! :D

Deciphering Studylink contracts (LOL JK).

Specifically, the seven year lifetime limit. Can you get a student loan for the rest of a degree, even if it goes a couple of years over the 7 EFTS limit? The general info on the website seems to imply something different to the contract. I NEED TO LEARN EVERYTHING, AAAGH. Seven years is reasonable, don’t get me wrong, but so distressing that my time is limited. ;_;

Other things:

Watching a massive hare relaxing on our lawn. Reading Lord of the Rings for the first time in years. Throwing out junk that’s lurked in your wardrobe for years. Having the willpower not to buy anything from Kikki K (I could easily spend hundreds!). Finally, finally getting a haircut for the first time in over a year. Ordering new frames (I went with Option B). Putting finishing touches to a new layout…! Getting accommodation confirmed at last for Wellington!

Eeeee!

Promises I don’t intend to keep in 2011, etc

There’s an absolute joy in calling 2010 “last year” – especially when the Universe is totez sending hints that 2011 will be 100x better. Here’s some of what will be happening:

  • MORE UNIVERSITY. More Latin. More Classics. More Law. ♥
  • SUMMER SCHOOL. Which will have me oh-so-conveniently trapped in Wellington (GREATEST CITY EVER) for a month (A WHOLE MONTH YOU GUYS).
  • RECLAIM LORD OF THE RINGS GEEKERY.
  • KEEP TRYING NEW WEIRD FOODS. Last year I had a tangerine for the first time. It was beyond exciting.
  • TRY GEOCACHING. If you are awesome, and like treasure hunting, come do this with me! As a warning – there may be gentle slopes involved, and possibly trees. But to counter this, there will be me (!) and optional pirate accents.
  • AMANDA PALMER. As long as I don’t have an exam the day after, or something equally rage-inducing. I’ll be by myself (woe that I haven’t managed to convert anyone to her music), and I may be mugged, but it will be worth it!
  • TRAVEL THROUGH TIME. Though I’m not sure where we’re going anymore. I have lost the battle for the itinerary to include India, but am still passionately fighting for Vietnam (“You don’t know man, you weren’t there!”).
  • MOVE HOUSE. Although, I’m not sure if this is true. We’re building a new house, so of course we’re going to be moving into this Beige Wonderland, right? Right?

The rest we’ll discover as we run into it, I suppose! Happy new year~ :D

I'm a mediocre law student at Otago and future cat lady. This is my blog thingy.
