Chyrp
…Being the new blogging script this site is runing on (whoooot!).
Why the move?
- I like messing around with things.
- Anything else is a bonus.
Chyrp vs Tumblr
I saw this comparison a lot, and on installation it’s obvious – just like Tumblr, you have options of posting a video, text, etc. Providing this means I can customise what each post is going to look like, I’ll drop Tumblr completely. Let’s face it: the only ones who’d visit my Tumblr are already visiting the blog, so I may as well combine the two.
Making the theme
Briefly googling Chyrp, I found people marvelling about how lightweight the script is… and complaining about how tricky making a theme is. I only know XHTML and CSS. My experience of PHP extends only to copying/pasting snippets of code (PHP includes FTW!)… This was going to get ugly.
I spent the night staring down the default theme’s coding, seeing how it incorporated the script, and after much fiddling had it all sorted. The coding’s quite dreadful, and there are a lot of things I need to smooth out first, before I officially use it (hence the default theme!). Still, it’s no harder than I anticipated when first installing Chyrp.
Things to do
I’ll cross them off when they’re done~!
- Fix RSS, add link
- Check layout in other browsers (long story, but I can’t do this until January heheh)
- Move all posts from Tumblr and
FanUpdate(the old blogging script) to Chyrp. - Get comments module to work..
- Clean up stylesheet. Validate coding.
And in the meantime, there is my Twitter for general updates and all that jazz~
